It is, however, on its last legs and in the process of being retired.
@beka_valentine Starship reached orbital velocity routinely on previous flights—it just didn't *stay* in orbit because they always put it on a trajectory with a zero-altitude perigee, to avoid creating 100+ tonnes of space junk if the engines failed to re-light and de-orbit it on command. Until now—with sufficient confidence everything would work.

@shriramk At first, nothing fundamentally different, just more. But at some point, "more" becomes unmanageable and will require either a change of governance or a change of technology.
My bet is that we would go for technology, ending up with something like machine learning.
For me, the higher-level conclusion is that formal systems don't scale. The question then is if engineering could do a better job by taking this principle into account from the start.

This week on AppStories, @viticci and I dig into macOS and watchOS 27.
One person if my extended family (not directly related to me) died. On the family group, where it was announced, my family posted comforting messages to the ones related to that person.
But one message from one of my direct family members was deleted, and then posted again.
But thanks to Apple bad notification integration between iPhone and Apple Watch, I could read the original message.
It started with "I can make it more warming, and more delicate for this event."
I'm the person who never sends even a "Happy birthday" over internet messages. I do gave compliments later, when I see people in person.
And it is just sad that family are using GPT write responses to people.

@craiggrannell I'm still rocking a work-supplied M2 Pro and it's... fine. I could do with more memory but that's been a complaint since day 1! (I asked for 32Gb, got 16Gb.) Even the battery is mostly okay. But don't tell my boss, I'd still be okay getting a new M7 Pro.
@sdarlington Obviously, it’s all relative. I wouldn’t foist an M1 on someone doing 3D graphics or something. But the clamour to always upgrade to the new is starting to get really tiring.

I used nvi when it was still called elvis. I ported it to the Amiga. I only started using vim when my place of work kept uninstalling nvi and reinstalling vim on my dev VM every time they pushed an upgrade.
@jwz @robpike I have a Fujifilm that has two big advantages over phone-cams:
1. It tells the truth about color; dunno about the iOS side, but Android camera apps are getting increasingly opinionated about what color they think things should “really” be.
2. It’s physically optimized for shooting, you can turn-on/compose/shoot immensely faster than any app.
It’s nice that the notion of a camera with those advantages that fits in your pocket is gaining popularity. For example see Ricoh GR IV.

@mattblaze I'm sure your post is going to be incredibly popular on Mastodon, but here's the key difference, I think:
AI can be useful to me in my own home without depending on any valuation, inflated or otherwise, from any outsider.
It helped me improve my code, for my own use and not for distribution.
